Letter to Phase Four Industries

October, 2003

As an avid RVer, Ellen and I spend about four to six months in our 2002 Dynasty, traveling with friends around this great country of ours. We RVers are always looking for things to individualize our coaches as well as arranging “stuff” in an organized, easy to get to way. Being organized lets you carry more “stuff”.

Our coach has most of the bells and whistles and we have added many things in this pursuit. We recently left a Camping World store and spent less than $25.00. A real feat as we usually spend in excess of $100.00 per visit, four to six times a year.

One area of RVing that nobody likes to deal with is hooking up services at RV parks. I had the 50AMP electrical cord reel and remote control added to my coach and would have added a water hose reel had it been available. Dealing with, and storing the electric cable and water hose, has always been a pain. Now it’s a snap to hook up the electric and I continue searching for a place to mount a water hose reel.

As you all know, the third hook up item is the nastiest and most unsanitary aspect of dealing with service connections. I have spent all kinds of money on sewer hoses, supports, endless fittings, and chemicals in an attempt to make emptying the holding tanks less of a hassle. Recently I solved the problem entirely!!!

As it turns out, a friend of mine has been working on this problem for some time in a much more dedicated way than I or my friends had.

The product is called Waste Master, which makes emptying the holding tanks as simple as putting gas in a car. Doug Swarts, president of Phase Four Industries, has designed a complete systems approach to waste evacuation and has been working with RV manufacturers to install the system on new coaches.

Seeing the unit in action convinced me I wanted it on my coach. After much arm-twisting, Doug agreed to retrofit my Dynasty. I worked with his crew, Dan and Marty, to complete the task.

The retrofit started with complete removal of the service bay holding tanks on my coach. New holding tanks were manufactured to get the outlets in the proper position. Minor difficulties were experienced in hooking up the inputs to the tanks, but double-jointed Marty was able to accomplish this task. The installation would be very simple during the manufacturing process of a motorhome – a simple change in design.

The WasteMaster system installation went according to plan with air hookups – a new electrical circuit and the heart of the system, the sewer hose, nozzle and enclosure. The enclosure door was painted to match the exterior of my coach and looks like a factory installation. We also were able to take many before and after photographs to document this experience.

We are now on our way, a two and a half month trek across the country. I am having a ball running into my fellow RVers and showing them the cleanest dumping system ever. It’s fast, safe, sanitary and easy to use. The best part of all, Waste Master makes waste removal uneventful.

I’m happy to demonstrate my greatest addition and tell everyone about it. This Waste Master system gets a huge thumbs up from us.

Happy Trails!

Waste Valves

A NEW GENERATION OF WASTE VALVES

In this world of hi tech and push button technology, why do you still pull on that darn dump valve. After all, it is 2003!

Currently, there are two choices available:
1: A manual valve actuator.
2: An electric waste valve.

The manual valve actuator attaches to your current manual valve. Attaching a new actuator to an older manual valve could introduce problems. It would be advised to put in a new manual valve if you choose this option. As manual valves become harder to pull on, this also puts more stress on the actuator. This is an add on system to someone else’s valve.

The electric waste valve is a self contained unit which replaces the manual valve. It bolts up to your existing flanges and comes with specially designed seals for ease of operation.

Both devices operate on 12VDC. The actuator opens the manual valve at a much slower rate. The electric drain valve opens and closes in 1-2 seconds. Both products have an optional “Open” indicator light.

In the event of loss of power or device problems, the actuator needs to be removed from the manual valve. Now you are back to pulling the handle of the valve (if you can find it) or using pliers in order to empty your tanks.

The electric waste valve comes with a manual override, which is operated with a straight blade screw driver from either side of the valve. It requires less than two full turns to fully open or close the valve. No disassembly necessary.

The actuator comes in two sizes, 1 ½” & 3”. The electric waste valve comes in a 3” only. There are reducer kits available if you choose to replace your
1 ½” valve also. Actually both black & gray systems should come equipped with 3” plumbing. This allows for faster and more efficient waste removal. Manufacturers are slowly changing to 3” valves on the gray tanks. In three years or less most manufacturers will have completed this.

The actuator comes with a one year warranty (this does not cover the manual valve). The electric valve comes with a 2 year warranty.

As for customer service, only you can be the judge. I would call each of the manufacturers of the valves before deciding on which product to purchase.

Tire Information

MichelinRVTIREGUIDE.pdf
